Dumpsters Business Inspection Program

The City of SeaTac has begun to implement a new Business Inspection program that helps control the source of pollutants in stormwater. The City’s National Pollutant Discharge Eliminations System (NPDES) Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater permit requires the implementation of this program. The NPDES Permit and SeaTac Municipal Code 12.12 allows staff to inspect business sites that have the potential to pollute stormwater; we will work with businesses to help them maintain compliance.

What can you expect from a business inspection?

You will receive notification by mail that an inspection of your business will be taking place. City of SeaTac personnel will visit your business and make recommendations on how you can prevent stormwater pollution on your site. You will be required to implement the Best Management Practices as recommended by City staff.

Best Management Practices

The City of SeaTac has adopted the Best Management Practices (BMPs) found in the 2021 King County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Manual. BMPs are measures that will help prevent pollutants from being washed into stormwater and entering lakes, rivers, and the Puget Sound. You can learn about the specific BMPs that apply to your business here.
